This 3 ingredient Passion Fruit Refresher is the perfect cool, sweet and sour drink. Living in Hawaii, passion fruit is called Lilikoi. Lilikoi grows everywhere! It is a delicious local treat. Where we live on island it is very warm all year round. Most of the time we need a cool refreshing drink that is healthy and low in processed sugar. To shake things up from our traditional chill coconut water breaks we made this easy Passion Fruit Refresher. This Lilikoi Drink pairs well with Avocado Toast or alongside Hawaiian Coconut Haupia.
Passion Fruit Refresher Recipe Rundown:
Passion fruit/ Lilikoi: For this recipe we used frozen lilikoi. At our local Costco, in the frozen fruit section frozen lilikoi juice is sold. We like the frozen lilikoi because it serves as flavored ice cubes. Regular, from the vine lilikoi can be substituted. For those who have never tried lilikoi before once they become wrinkled on the outside, they are ripe and ready! Slice them in half and scoop out the insides and place it inside the glass you’ll be drinking from. While the product we used has the seeds separated from the pulp, the seeds are completely edible and delicious.
Water: Water is the base of this recipe. Though it could be substituted with coconut water!
Maple: Maple is our sweetener of choice. It blends in so perfectly with the lilikoi and the water. Though we have not tested this recipe with any other types of sweeteners, feel free to use agave, monk fruit, coconut sugar or maybe other fruits like pineapple or blueberries to make this drink naturally sweeter.
Additional ideas: Some additional ideas to potentially incorporate into the Passion Fruit Refresher include some of these fresh and detoxifying ingredients.
Fresh mint leaves
Fresh Thai basil leaves
A dash of cayenne pepper
A dash of turmeric powder
Fresh lime juice or even a lime wedge into your refresher
